Tradition considers 7 a lucky number – there are seven notes on a musical scale for example – and multiple times the musical riches and excitement then, in this 17th Blues Masters at the Crossroads. Are you ready?
It's the rockingest, hand-clappingest musical extravaganza – shaking the walls and rattlin' the floorboards. Staged live in Salina, Kansas Oct. 17-18 at Blue Heaven Studios – our gorgeous Gothic-style church sanctuary-turn-recording studio and performance hall! And have we got a knock-your-socks-off lineup this year! But don't wait – this two-night bonanza of soul and blues only seats an audience of 450 each night. Wait at your own risk!
A strong lineup? You better believe it. Wait 'till you've experienced soul blues belter Mighty Sam McClain. This Grammy-nominated singer is still going strong at age 71, and his 2012 impressive album Too Much Jesus (not Enough Whiskey) garnered a nomination for Soul Blues Album of the Year at the Blues Music Awards (formerly J.C. Handy Awards). Sam was also nominated by the Blues Foundation as Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year. We've also got The Fabulous Thunderbirds' frontman Kim Wilson and his scorching harmonica, Bernard Allison toting the same smokin' six string shooter that his late father Luther Allison assaulted the blues with, another legacy performer Rip Lee Pryor, son of the beloved Snooky Pryor, the sartorial splendor, grit and wit of the great Sonny Green, the roots/blues sound of Moreland & Arbuckle, plus bluesmen extraordinaire Marquise Knox, Lazy Lester and Joe Beard!
– New this year a special feature! Your chance to attend a live recording session! This year's concerts will be recorded direct to DSD (Direct Stream Digital, the audio format used to produce Super Audio CDs) and many of the artists have already agreed to let us put their live sets up on our Acoustic Sounds Super HiRez download service within weeks of the event. You'll be part of the audience heard on the recordings that will be made available while the memories of your Blues Masters experience is still fresh! –
Audiophiles rave about the sound quality of this event — our 90-year-old gorgeous Gothic-style church sanctuary features perfect acoustics. And the talent is real and legendary. Watch video clips of the artists at www.blueheavenstudios.com/BMC17Lineup.cfm. Then see and hear it for yourself!
This year’s Blues Masters Host Hotel once again is the Salina Ambassador (formerly the Ramada), located at 1616 W. Crawford Street in Salina. Call 785-823-1739 and ask for the “Blues Masters rate.” This is where the musicians will be staying and where there’ll be an after-hours jam session Friday and Saturday nights.
