APO Records To Receive Grandest Honor

APO Records and its founder, Chad Kassem, will receive the greatest recognition for non-musicians in the Blues industry the Blues Foundation's Keeping the Blues Alive award. Kassem will be presented the award for the Historic Preservation category at a banquet in the Gibson Guitar manufacturing plant in downtown Memphis on Sunday, Feb. 10.

Honeyboy Edwards has recorded in every format

As stated in the liner notes in the upcoming release: "At 84, David "Honeyboy" Edwards is once again on the cutting edge of recording technology. He has recorded 78s, 45s, 33s and CDs. By participating in this, the first blues recording in DVD format, Edwards has recorded in every format of the 20th Century." This project began as many do, as an inspiration.  The goal was to capture and preserve one of the true Blues legends in such a way as to convey both the man and his music.

True Blues

He heard a photographer was coming, so Harry Hypolite dressed to the nines. Wearing a light blue, silk button-down shirt, navy blue suit over the top with the matching silk handkerchief and polished black shoes, Hypolite put out his cigarette and turned down the television volume.

Blue Heaven puts Salina in spotlight

It's tough to know what the staff of CBS Television's "60 Minutes II" news program may cram into the 11- or 12-minute feature story they're planning to air on Salina's Blue Heaven Studios.

The "60 Minutes II" crew spent Monday and Tuesday filming multiple hours of Blue Heaven owner Chad Kassem, his assistant and musician Jimmy D. Lane and four blues musicians in town this week to record at the former church at 201 S. Eighth.
